Private and Group Dog Training Services in San Jose, CA

Training is an important part of dog care and helps strengthen the bond between you and your pet. Long an area provider of daycare, boarding, and grooming services for canines, we now offer a training program run by certified trainer Andrea Woo, from Skilled Mutts Company. Positive reinforcement is the primary technique used to encourage dogs to learn the essential skills you want them to have.

Andrea Woo is a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers. Certified through Animal Behavior College, she has worked with the Hearing Dog program in California and volunteered with the Humane Society of Silicone Valley, training shelter dogs.

Aside from offering training from leading experts in the field, Dr. Dave’s also provides options to best accommodate you and your canine. Our dog daycare company offers private lessons and group lessons.

Private Lessons

Private lessons provide the benefits of one-on-one instruction. Just as some people and kids learn better in a more quiet, private setting, there are dogs that function better in this type of environment, too. A professional trainer works with you and your pooch. You don’t have to rely on self-help training materials. Plus, you get the full attention of the trainer and private sessions allow them to focus on specific issues that pertain to your dog’s behavior and progress.

The trainer comes to your home. This eliminates having to travel and is beneficial for a dog that is not that social or friendly. It also eliminates stress on shy or fearful dogs; in some cases, private training can be held in public areas, such as parks, to improve their social behavior.

Group Lessons

Group classes are an option if your dog gets along with others. They do provide an opportunity for individualized attention, not to mention learn general skills such as manners and interacting with people and other canines. Generally, group lessons are less expensive per class. They’re quite cost-effective, depending on the issues you want to address,

Social dogs generally fare better in group settings. In a group class, dogs have an opportunity to socialize with one another, which is great if they don’t often interact with other animals and tend to get very excited around other dogs. Group sessions can temper a dog’s overt enthusiasm. They can target various issues if a dog has mastered basic manners and skills, yet has issues when distractions are encountered. Then again, your dog can benefit by making new friends, too!
